Franklin Canyon Stables participated
in the annual Battle of the Barns event sponsored by the Martinez
Horsemen's Association on Saturday, July 26th, 2008. Trainer
Kimberly Bredehoft and her team of riders, Kristin Abbas, Gabrielle
and Sophia Chaparro, Kelsey Clark, Erica Damianakes, Jennifer
Lenihan, Paige Lofgren and Gloria and Barbara Rodriquez took
an early lead, placing first out of ten barns in the first two
events of this friendly competition. Wearing colorful 60's tie-dyed
shirts and peace signs, the riders participated in ten classes
based on traditional gymkhana events.
The full-day event was held at the Martinez Marina. For several
of the riders, this was the first time they had been part of
a competitive event. Battle of the Barns gave riders from ages
11 to 40 and their families a chance to enjoy a beautiful day
together and the thrill of receiving the winning trophy, outperforming
the team trained by Charles Wilhelm that came in second. Trainer
Kimberly Bredehoft, who had ridden in prior Battle of the Barns
events, was delighted that her first teams effort resulted in
